My MOSCOW PICTURES - AUG-SEPT 2005
Here are a few pictures from my beautiful home town &
my first concert in Russia.
I divided the pics into little groups for easier viewing (how sweet am
I?) :)
Click on each group to view individual pictures, and make sure to read each
picture's name, some of them are somewhat funny (top of each page).
Also, for some vertical pictures, you'll have to scroll down to see the whole
image.
Hope you enjoy seeing these photos. Feel free to post questions/feedback on the
messageboard

Hugs,
Marina :)

Kremlin -
Nick & I tried to visit the Kremlin on the only day of the
week it's normally closed. Oops. :) I went with my mom and my
brother Alex after Nick left. Check out beautiful pictures of the world-famous Cathedral Square
of the Kremlin (started developing in the 1300s).
Red Square -
Probably the most famous area of Moscow with its
magnificent St Basil's Cathedral (built in 1550s), Kremlin towers (1400s) and
Lenin's mausoleum (1930).
Around Moscow
- Includes pictures of the recently rebuilt Cathedral
of Christ the Saviour, also Novodevichy Convent (5 min walk from where I grew
up), old Arbat Street full of souvenir stands, Tverskaya Street (known since the
14th century as the city's major road) with an almost 2-century old mansion which
is now Yeliseev food store (since 1898), etc.
Countryside
- Almost all Muscovites have a tiny piece of land
(called a "dacha") outside of Moscow where they can build little homes and have
gardens. My dad built a little shack-like house with his own hands and my
brother & I spent every summer at the dacha - riding bikes, walking in the
forest (gathering mushrooms, wild raspberries, blueberries, & other berries),
swimming in the nearby pond & helping my dad & my grandma in the garden (we grew
everything from potatoes, cabbage & squash to all sorts of berries, apples &
flowers).
My dad took my brother, Nick & me to the dacha for half a day where we dug up potatoes, picked cucumbers & tomatoes.
After that, we visited the New Jerusalem Monastery & Cathedral not too far from
Moscow. It was built in the 1660s, partially destroyed by the Nazis in 1940s and
later rebuilt.
My first
concert in Russia + radio interview! - After playing 400+ concerts in
the USA, my first concert in Russia was something I was very anxious about. But
playing for the first time for my parents, old friends and all-Russian-speaking
audience turned out to be really wonderful. As the last song of the show I sang
"Moscow Nights", and ended up all in tears. It was awesome to be in Moscow &
share my music with everyone.
Many thanks to Dima who helped organize the concert. Thanks to Fedor for taking
some of the pictures @ the show & my Radio Kultura interview/live performance.
